But I’ve at least read a few blog posts, not as many as I’d hoped to get to, but the best I can expect with this lame monkey internet connection I must use lately. I came across a couple of posts with some suggestions on how to unblock your writing. These were posted by a writing coach whose audience mainly consists of comedians. Pretty good stuff here:
Hurdle #1: Getting started
Hurdle #3: Making words flow
I also read this post by Jane Friedman on how to be a successful writer. This was both inspiring and discouraging to me somehow. Maybe you can see why after you read it. On one hand, I have these traits she mentions. But then, the 10+ year thing is just damned depressing. I know it’s not entirely accurate, but still… depressing.
While you're here, check out the new awesome blogfests in my sidebar. Blogfests are awesplendeliciously fun and quite addictive. I will some day soon, when I don’t have hamster-wheel driven internet, host a blogfest too. Jury’s still out on what the theme will be. Hmmmm...
I said in my earlier post that I’d be gone all week, which I was, but now I’m saying I’ll be gone another week. We're just in for the weekend. So as before, I’ll do my best to get on the blogs and see how everyone’s doing, but it may take me a while.
Now just briefly, someone please look at this condom site and tell me it’s a joke!
PS - Flags in, Shipmates and Brothers in Arms. I will not forget.
That's funny - I've always envisioned slow internet and computers to be one lone hamster in a wheel...
ReplyDeleteOh heck. I realize I posted my prior comment on the wrong day! Well, thanks for visiting my blog today. If you're so inclined, you can read the rest of my original comment on your May 25th post :-/
ReplyDeleteTen years is a long time, but then I think back to when I started writing fiction, just for fun. It was over ten years ago. So I'm hoping all that time counts. I've sure learned a lot since I started!
ReplyDeleteThe Tuesday after memorial day weekend--yeah concentration--out the window! so.much.to.do!!
ReplyDeleteI found your Blog! Sorry for the message, but thank you for following mine!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed memorial day...I hope you did as well!
It's a comforting thought to count from the time we first started writing (usually in our grade school or high school years). I think I've learned more in the last three months than I've learned through my college years. It's amazing, and it's mostly due to all of you lovely bloggers who are so willing to share your knowledge and experiences. Thanks, guys!
ReplyDeleteAnd I did have a great Memorial Day. First, I took my time to appreciate and remember the lives sacrificed to ensure our freedom. Then I spent the evening at the Padres v. Mets game. Tori, I'm sorry your beloved Mets didn't win, but it was a good game anyway :)
Wow...ten years huh? I'm only two years in and I already feel like I'm taking too long to write this book. I think back to where I started and it's such a huge difference. I've learned SO much in the last two years. I'm going to just assume that I'm a fast learner and the ten year thing doesn't apply to me. haha. :)
ReplyDeleteSo, I was writing everyone that was nice enough to enter our contest to let them know voting has begun! It would be great if you could stop by and put your choice in! :) The chimera is getting really tired of being nameless. haha.
Keep an eye on our site--the next contest will be his origin story. We're going to have some awesome prizes. :) Thanks!
My own concentration feels fairly shot lately as well. Maybe it's the arrival of summer. All I want to do is sleep for some reason.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful picture you posted, by the way. Very touching.
Sadly, I don't think the condom site is a joke. And has anyone ever told you that your background is gorgeous? Well it is, gorgeous I mean.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the links!
Great Post, I also have had trouble concentrating lately. I love your blog background. Gorgeous! Just had to start following. I look forward to reading more.
ReplyDeleteI'm an easily distracted person but I've learned that if I give myself permission to look at the shiny for a set period of time, I'm more likely to get the things I need to get done finished. Thanks for sharing this and thanks for the links.
ReplyDeleteEeep! Where did you Character Interview Blogfest go??? I know how it feels to be distracted. *Sigh*
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post!
Please drop by my blog and let me know what you think of my interview! ;)
Angela: stop by my site, as I have a blogging award for you!
ReplyDeleteHi there! There is an award for you. Pick it up at http://laussieswritingblog.blogspot.com/. Hope you will participate.
ReplyDeleteThat was truly a horrifying site. Very serious I'm afraid. I feel your pain with the focus problem...having some myself.
ReplyDeleteLeft you an award lady!!!
